Shrinking Cities examines the worldwide phenomenon of urban population decline. Artists, architects, filmmakers, journalists, cultural and social researchers present the changed reality of four cities and regions: Detroit, Michigan, Manchester, Liverpool, United Kingdom, Ivanovo, Russia and Halle/ Leipzig, Germany.
Shrinking Cities comes to Cleveland through a combined effort between SPACES and Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative.
Shrinking Cities is a project of the German Federal Cutlural Foundation in cooperation with the Project Office Philipp Oswalt, the Museum of Contemporary Art Leipzig, The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, and magazine archplus. www.shrinkingcities.com

Part one: Research (at Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative) explores the global study of the phenomenon, the change in urban landscapes, everyday practices and political conflicts.
Part two: Interventions (at SPACES) features alternative models of artistic intervention, and self-empowerment strategies for action.
Work from the Kent State University College of Architecture graduate studio and high school students from Look up to Cleveland will also be on view at SPACES, providing a Cleveland perspective on the issue of urban shrinkage.
