SPACES SPACE Lab Application Form

SPACE Lab provides a venue and opportunity for artists and students to produce experimental and timely short term projects or installations. Site specific or site sensitive work is encouraged.

SPACE Lab exhibitions are each three weeks long and are held in one of two areas of the gallery during our primary six-week exhibitions. The selection committee is comprised of artists and two representatives from SPACES programming committee. Although the space cannot always be guaranteed, the SPACE Lab committee reccommends that you specify one of two areas in your application (see floor plan or ask us to send you one). Artists will recieve a small honorarium for their SPACE Lab exhibition.

Application Checklist

In order to be considered, all SPACE Lab applications must include:

Ten 35mm slides: Label as shown, with NAME, TITLE, DIMENSIONS, MEDIA and TOP. Please do not send original slides. Not applicable for video submission.

A slide script with title, date, dimensions and medium of each work. Include a one sentence description of each image if necessary.

For video artists (only), send videotape with script with title, date, length of tape, and a brief description of the work. If the videotape is longer than 5 min, please cue the tape to a 5 minute segment.

Your resume.

Self-addressed stamped-envelope (SASE) with sufficient postage for return of your materials.

A one page proposal that answers all of the following questions that are appropriate to your proposal.

  • Space Preference: If applicable, which SPACE Lab location would be most appropriate for this work? Specify. (see the floor plan on our site, or send a SASE for a hard copy.)
  • How do you intend to use the space and how will this work be site sensitive or site specific?
  • What will this work look like, and what materials will be used?
  • Your submitted slides do not have to represent the work or the project you are proposing, however, please tell us how the work shown in your slides relates to your proposal.
  • How is this work experimental, and how will it expand the boundaries of your previous work?

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
