SPACES presents two installation exhibitions by artists Jeff Krueger and Tina Burton as a part of its SPACE Lab program. SPACE Lab focuses on smaller, experimental and timely projects. Applications are reviewed year round by a committee of younger artists. Jeff Krueger (Santa Barbara, CA) explores the possible outcome of nuclear and biological war in Flowering Genders, on view from January 4th - 25th. Krueger's installation of wall drawings and sculptures suggest catastrophe, genetic mutation, and hope for future generations. Tina Burton (Chicago, IL) deals with time and ritual in her installation, Record, on view from January 29 - Feb 15th. Using cast metal and large photographic prints to document her use of household items each day, Burton explores the presence of a living person through the objects and habits of her everyday life. SPACES is a non-profit, artist-run, alternative space gallery. Since 1978, SPACES has given over 6,500 artists in the visual and performing arts an arena in which to present challenging new ideas. SPACES is located at 2220 Superior Viaduct on the West side of the Flats. Superior Viaduct runs parallel to the Detroit Superior Bridge at the intersection of West 25th Street. |
