Sculptural Installation SPACES presents an installation by Northeast Ohio artist Peter E. Becker(Chagrin Falls, OH). Zip-lock bags, toilet paper, coffee filters …purely utilitarian, right? Becker uses common household objects as the building blocks for his complex floor sculptures. Transforming the mundane, Becker shares his intrigue for altering one's perception of an object without actually changing the object itself. His 8' by 5' installation will consist of thousands of coffee filters, each connected by the filter's natural ability to stack. The result is an undulating form, full of rhythm and pattern, still yet full of movement. Please join us for a free opening reception Friday, November 21st, from 5-9pm. Enjoy refreshments and free parking on the Superior Viaduct. SPACELab focuses on smaller, experimental and timely projects. Applications are reviewed year round by a working committee of artists. SPACES is a non-profit, artist-run, alternative space gallery. Since 1978, SPACES has given over 7,000 artists in the visual and performing arts an arena in which to present challenging new ideas. SPACES is located at 2220 Superior Viaduct on the West side of the Flats. Superior Viaduct runs parallel to the Detroit Superior Bridge at the intersection of West 25th Street. |
