SPACELab

SPACES presents two installation exhibitions by collaborative team Alison O'Daniel and Sreshta Premnath, and artist Charles Tucker as a part of its SPACELab program. SPACELab focuses on smaller, experimental and timely projects. Applications are reviewed year round by a committee of working artists.

Did you ever get in trouble for passing notes in school? Two recent graduates of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Alison O'Daniel (Maryland Heights, MO) and Sreshta Premnath (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY), have elevated their passion for passin' into an art form. In their installation, The Traveling, on view from Sep 12 - Oct 3, the collaborative pair divides the space into two parts, with O'Daniel's work overtaking the ceiling and Premnath's multimedia work dominating the floor. Their handwritten notes to each other are suspended between the two artists' work, folded into floating paper airplanes containing their creative communications. As both artists move to separate cities, their daily correspondence and collaboration takes on new meaning and their fleet of flying letters will continue to grow throughout the exhibition.

From Oct7 - 24, Charles Tucker (Cleveland, OH) explores the potent symbol of the cruciform in his multimedia installation, Semiosis. In collaboration with visual artist Lane Cooper and composer Andrew Stoltz, Tucker uses dramatic lighting, hanging fabrics, delicate prints, and sound to poetically reveal and deconstruct the changing meanings of this pervasive sign. Tucker teaches drawing and foundation studies at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Join us for the closing reception Friday, Oct 24th, from 5-9pm.
