In the Middle of the Way takes us on the personal journeys of those left unnoticed at the fringes of society. Exploring themes of homelessness and loneliness, the project includes Konik's own personal journey, leading us to question where our own societal boundaries lie.

Anna Konik
Warsaw, Poland

Anna Konik is in Cleveland as a participant in the SPACES World Artists Program, designed to give visiting artists the time and opportunity to create new work and interact with the Northeast Ohio community.

After meeting with social service agencies, artists, and broader members of the Cleveland community, Konik was introduced to Juba, a homeless, African-American, Vietnam veteran through the St. Malachi Center, a near-West Side organization. Konik spent days with Juba, assembling his story into a dialogue that blurs the line between the fine line between "traditional society" and homelessness.

The artist is based in Warsaw, Poland, but identifies with her nomadic collaborators as she, herself, continues to move from country to country, focusing on exhibitions and investigations of social issues. Konik's work has been shown extensively in Poland and Germany, as well as Austria and Russia. This is her first visit to the United States.
