Exhibition Jan 20Mar 10, 2006
Opening Reception Fri Jan 20 5pm | Closing Reception Fri Mar 10 710pm

Throughout her 30-year career, self-taught artist Lilian Tyrrell has infused her stunning, large-scale tapestries with politically and socially relevant themes. Human acts of war, greed, and bigotry are examined through her "Disaster Blanket" series, with news media images of a downed aircraft, or a soldier in a gas mask, meticulously recreated in vivid colors on the loom. In examining the influences and evolving style of the major works of Tyrrell's oeuvre, the artist's unique contribution to the art of weaving is made evident.

Curated by William Busta, an independent curator and cultural historian who has served as the director of several galleries throughout Cleveland.
