SPACES is currently looking for Volunteers, Interns, and Federal Work-Study Students. We are looking for individuals who are creative, interested in the arts and willing participate in the day-to-day operations of a contemporary arts organization. This is the perfect job for individuals in school, just out of school, or trying to build up their resume. Working at SPACES can boost your resume. Workers will gain insight into the world of contemporary, experimental art, and the step-by-step process through which art exhibitions are created. You'll also have the opportunity to meet and work with local, regional, national and international artists.
The Purpose of this Program
This program offers individuals the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the field of non-profit business practices and arts within the Cleveland community. Workers will be able to participate and assist in the areas of programming, marketing, development, membership, gallery operations, exhibition management and preparation, event planning, and much more …
Requirements
Workers will be selected based on their application and interviews. Applicants of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be flexible and adaptable in their job descriptions, as workers are sometimes asked to complete other gallery-related tasks for SPACES staff. Individuals from all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Days to Work
Tuesday – Thursday, 11:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; Friday, 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.; Sunday, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Opening receptions, special events and programs after 5:00 p.m. and on the weekends
Possible Responsibilities
- Assist with daily operations of the gallery, front desk, and exhibition implementation
- Assist with receiving and shipping of artwork and preparing the gallery for new exhibitions
- Work alongside national and international artists
- Conduct research for exhibitions, public relations, artists, fundraising, development etc ...
- Run gallery errands
- Work at opening receptions, educational & community outreach programs, symposia, and provide gallery tours
- Assist in coordination of annual review of artist applications
- Update and maintain SPACES’ archives, database, and membership correspondence
- Distribute press/exhibition materials
Although SPACES staff will train workers some helpful skills to have include: Friendly and helpful
- Friendly and helpful personality
- Some knowledge of basic painting and hand-tools
- Experience working with art
- Knowledge of web based research techniques
- Comfort with making solicitation phone calls
- Proofreading and editing
- Basic computer skills
SPACES' Programs
SPACES presents exhibitions every season featuring artists who push boundaries by experimenting with new forms of expression and innovative uses of new media.
The SPACES World Artists Program is designed to give visiting international and national resident artists the time and opportunity to create new work and interact with the Northeast Ohio community.
SPACELab, a series of smaller exhibitions, creates the same opportunity for younger artists and students.
